Background about Juliana Nguyen
Sports Massage Therapist- Juliana Nguyen MGHT (Member of the Guild Holistic Therapist), I am the founder of Juli’s Therapeutic Care with a first-class honours degree in BSc Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation. Having refined my expertise through invaluable experiences, I have worked with elite ballet professionals at the prestigious Royal Ballet School and in specialised sports clinic settings. My background provides me with a comprehensive understanding of the body’s mechanics and the unique demands of athletes and performers, enabling me to deliver tailored care with precision and empathy.
Having personally endured a challenging journey with an undiagnosed back condition for half of my teenage years, I understand and empathise with the frustration and impacts caused when living with any type of chronic pain. After undergoing multiple MRI scans, X-rays, and a delayed diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, I found major relief through both physiotherapy as well as manual therapy. This experience has deeply shaped my approach to care, whilst nurturing a strong sense of empathy for those facing similar physical challenges. Therefore, I am committed to providing tailored care to help you achieve optimal relief, recovery and improve overall well being.
At Juli’s Therapeutic Care, I offer a range of holistic and therapeutic services, including relaxing de-stress massages, specialised sports massages, full body MOTs, cupping therapy, assisted stretching, and sports taping. Whether you're an athlete experiencing DOMs (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) /injury or someone in need of pain management, I am committed to supporting you in your journey to recovery.
Intro: Growing up with my older brother, sports were an integral part of our life. We played almost everything—from table tennis and football to basketball and badminton. You name it, we tried it! Physical Education quickly became my favorite subject, and I eagerly looked forward to it every week. Among all the sports, table tennis became my true passion. I loved the game so much that I started competing, but I soon realised that performing under pressure wasn’t my strong suit. My dreams of making it to the Olympics may not have panned out, but my dedication to the sport didn’t waver. By the age of 17, I earned my qualifications to coach table tennis.
My Journey /Story
Part 1: However, things took a turn when I began experiencing severe lower back pain which grew worse over time. The pain began to limit my ability to train and coach, impacting me both physically and mentally. One saying that resonates deeply with me is: “Do what you love, love what you do” by Wayne W. Dyer. Not being able to pursue what I loved left me devastated. Determined to uncover the root cause of my pain, I visited numerous doctors and underwent multiple referrals, tests, and MRI scans. Finally, a radiologist diagnosed me with Axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA), also known as Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
Part 2: While there’s no cure for this condition, physiotherapy and yoga became a lifeline, helping me learn how to manage my symptoms and improve my spinal flexibility. This journey inspired me to learn more about rehabilitation and to help others facing similar challenges. Combining my passion for sports and my interest in recovery, I pursued a BSc in Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation—a degree that perfectly aligned with my ambitions.
Part 3: During my studies, I had the incredible opportunity to complete a placement at The Royal Ballet School as a massage therapist, where I worked closely with talented ballet professionals and with a multidisciplinary healthcare team that allowed me to have hands on experience with the ballet professionals. I learnt how to rehabilitate various injuries understand how they recover and apply soft tissue massages to the ballet dancers. Additionally, I was fortunate to be mentored by Dr. Stretch, where I learnt how to prevent injuries by utilising my body efficiently during the treatments, and I gained valuable insights into the dedication and expertise of its co-founders, Trang and Rimon. Their inspiring work ethic and innovative approach deeply motivated me and played a pivotal role in fuelling my vision of opening my clinic.
Part 4: After graduating, I gained valuable experience working at various sports clinics as a sports massage therapist while also being self-employed at Spa and Massage and contributing to my family-run business. This hard work and dedication of effectively juggling three jobs, allowed me to save the necessary funds to refurbish and create a treatment room within my family run salon and have it named under Juli’s Therapeutic Care.
Part 5: Today, I am proud to run my clinic, where I help individuals achieve optimal relief, recovery, and overall well-being. Using the knowledge and techniques I’ve developed through my education and hands-on experience, I strive to treat every client with empathy and a personalised approach. Whether it’s overcoming pain or improving physical performance, I am here to support you in reaching your goals and living your best lives!
Part 6: In order to positively improve the progress of my lower back recovery,I continued my physiotherapy, yoga and strengthening at the gym. By staying consistent with my treatments, there were improvements and minimal flare ups, resulting in the ability to return to coaching, supervising and playing table tennis when I am not at the clinic. As you can see from my journey and this short clip I have attached below, it is possible to recover and return to play!
Outro: Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your interest in my journey. I am truly grateful for the experiences that have shaped me and the opportunity to share them with you. I hope my story inspires trust and confidence in the care and dedication I bring to my work. Here’s to helping you achieve your goals and supporting you on your path to wellness!
